So EXCITED!!!

Looking forward to.

In anticipation of.

Immensely thrilled!

Yep. That pretty much sums up how I feel.

& no, I'm not mad. I still remember that the exams are just in two days time.
& no. My feelings of excitement has no relation to the upcoming exams.

Now that, that's all cleared up :)

Guess what??

After missing out on previous opportunities to take part in theater, I finally gathered up the courage to take the plunge. How so?

Well I went for an audition yesterday for an upcoming theater production by The Oral Stage at KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center). Entitled The Seven Deadly Scenes; the upcoming release is inspired by none other than the seven deadly sins that were used in early Christian teachings to educate followers on the tendency of man to sin.

Take your pick!
  • Lust
  • Gluttany
  • Greed
  • Slot
  • Wrath
  • Envy
  • Pride
It was really fun (for the reason that I didn't know what I was doing)!

Prior to the auditions I spent the days before browsing through the YouTube for tips on how to audition.
I learned tidbits about the Do's and Don't of picking your monologue, how to use gestures, character building, down to "what to wear to your audtions".

Thank goodness for the internet. It didn't turn me theater savvy, but it certainly provided lots of useful insight! Oh, other than net surfing, I also tried to "practice" by having a friend throw random themes at me while I act them out. No points for guessing who's the poor soul that's forced to render this kind service.

So what happened at the auditions?

For those of you who (like the me a day before) have no clue about what goes on during an auditon, here's the scoop:
  1. Upon arrival, you'd be required to fill in a form (stating your demographic info, interests, your purpose for auditioning, etc).
  2. You'll be provided with a script there and then, so go run along and rehearse as much as you can before the designated time arrives. Based on these sorta scenarios, it would be advisable to arrive at least 30 mins earlier (for some auditions, the script is provided days before the audition or in some cases you have to prepare your own monologues according to a set theme).
  3. The clock strikes 12: It's your turn!
  4. When they are done asking questions about you and your past experiences, the big show begins (show them what you got)~
  5. You might also be required to do an improvisation on the spot based on a theme which they provide you. This is in addition to the monologues which you've already did. (i.e. create a 1-2 minute scene with the theme about "loss" in 30 seconds)
  6. You're free to go after they've cleared up the relevant info like production dates, rehearsal time and callback periods.
It's essentially like a job interview only with acting thrown in.

I don't know how to comment about my audition, 'cept to say I did my best. I really enjoyed the experience. (yes, I say that now because the nervousness has worn off)

Later that night, I received a msg from TOS: we're pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the callback workshop at so-and-so time & date. Hope to see you then.

*beaming from ear to ear*

The Seven Deadly Scenes is slated to be out in Mid-Dec 2008.

Wish me luck!
